Heat and Food Storage

by Troy

Our food storage recently became in contact with temperatures of 135-145 degrees Fahrenheit - canned goods, liquid in plastic bottles, dry goods. Will they be okay?

ANSWER:

Although you did not indicate how long the food was exposed to high temperatures, I am assuming it was not for years. If the amount of time your food spent in 135-145 degree temperatures was just a few months, weeks, or days, the food is probably still good. However, it should be rotated into your daily meals now and replaced as you consume it.

Before eating the food, check for bulging or damaged containers, or off-smelling food. If it doesn't smell right, don't taste it! Just throw it out. As the saying goes, better to be safe than sorry.
