Storing Meat Past the 'Sell-By' Date

Is meat (pork chops) safe past the "sell-by" date if it is refrigerated?

If it has been kept in a refrigerator the entire time, it is probably safe to eat. That is a required "sell-by" date, not an "eat-by" date.

Here are two criteria:
- When you open the package, does it smell strange? If it does, toss it out.
- If it smells okay to you, make sure it is thoroughly cooked (as pork should be anyway).
