Storing Opened Freeze Dried Meat
If I open a #10 can of freeze dried meat, which I currently have in my freezer, what is the best and safest way to store (long term) what I did not use? Would it need to be refrozen or would a mylar bag or mason jar with an oxygen absorber work? I am planning to make some Dinner in the Jars for the kids for Christmas and know I won't use all the meat at one time. Thanks!
Either the freezer or a mason jar with a O2 absorber will work just fine. Be sure and let the meat dry completely after taking it out of the freezer and before putting it into the jar. There should be very little moisture in the meat before putting into storage. Freezing introduces some moisture into food and it appears as it thaws.
