Used Buckets for Food Storage
Food storage containers in different sizes can be used.
When storing food, I know you put oxygen absorbers in the Mylar bags with the item, do you also put absorbers in the bucket as well??? I am using 2 gallon round buckets that are from McDonald's. I sealed 2 one-gallon Mylar bags of rice with absorbers in the bags and bay leaves.
Also do I need too use gamma lids since these buckets were used before? They do have a rubber thread in the lid. Thank you for any answers.
To answer your first question: no, you don't have to put O2 absorbers in the bucket too, as long as they are in the well-sealed Mylar bags.
Your 2nd question: no, you don't have to use gamma lids, again, as long as the Mylar bags are well sealed. I'm not even sure you could get gamma lids that would fit those buckets properly, having not seen the bucket size you're using.
Using buckets from stores and restaurants is a great way to save money and recycle too.
