Vacuum sealed or not?

by Heather (Mom of 5)

Just wondering...can't I store something that is not canned and not opened? Or does it have to be vacuum sealed?

Seal it or loose it

Heather, obviously you can't store a chicken breast by just laying it on the counter. (excuse my wicked mouth LOL.) All food must be sheltered from something. Heat, humidity, cold, drying, even just plain old dust. Stuff like macaroni that you will use in 2 weeks can sit in your bread box in the original wrapper, just like you've always done. To keep it for a year it must be kept in a freezer or vacuum sealed or it will get bugs. Weevils don't come from the outside, they are endemic, eggs already in the grain. Anything you plan to keep for a long time must be protected.
